Two storybirds for children

Storybird is a platform for writers, readers, and artists of all ages. Storybird is one of the world´s largest storytelling communities. This webpage allows your students to have fun reading and creating their own story. It is easy, very easy to write a story or a poem and you can get very nice pictures. Everything is free you have to sign up as a student or as a teacher. Other people can write comments on your story. It is awesome!! 

Here you can see two beautiful examples: "The Mermaid became a fairy" written by Diana Scripcariu and "Christmas Time" by Javier García Pardo, they are students in 4th ESO at IES Jaime Gil de Biedma School in Nava de la Asunción.

Nice tips to conduct interviews with your students

Today we are back to Open Voices, a nice project developed at URJC we have already mentioned several times in this blog, aimed at providing tips and ideas to try and use mass media in Primary CLIL lessons.

At The ESL Times, we have been tracking their steps from the very beginning, when they were just crafting the overview of the project, enthusiastically introducing the project trailer and their expectations about it as well as sharing their first tip.

Some days ago the Open Voices team came up with a new activity to put into practice in CLIL or ESL lessons, with young learners. They have recorded a nice video clip and are providing students with neatly explained steps when conducting an interview.

Watch the video below and take good note of their tutorial; we think it may well become valuable support material if you would like your students to understand what an interview is and how it should be conducted, at the same time as they have fun, of course!

London guide

The students at 5th-6th level in CPR Los Castaños (Granada) while were working the project "Countries around the world", have created a London guide.

It's an great work where you can find useful information about some interesting places to visit: location, maps, photos, timetable, prices...

The students at CPR Los Castaños in Pitres (Granada) have done an interesting work about a city that they chose in English class: writing short sentences, photos and recorded audio.

The used the App photo cut and fotobabble and finally the result was a talking photo.

Writing stories

Everything started when a group of students of the URJC University with their teacher (@mjgsm) proposed to us the idea of taking part on their project ICT for Reading and Writing. We are the Year 2B students from Colegio San Gregorio. They wrote everything in this blog:

At the begining we started reading and listening to one of the stories written by the students of the course #ictclil_URJC. The title was THE NAUGHTY MOON. My students really enjoyed it.

After this we decided to create a mind map using a couple of thinking routines: GENERATE - SORT - CONNECT - ELABORATE. and THINK - PAIR - SHARE. In the mind map students try to think about what parts of the story are important. This was the final result. 

So we started to create the main characters of their stories. They had to create a picture and a description. Here you have what they did.

Next day we were reading and listening to another proposal by the #ictclil_URJC students. This time the story was: THE PENGUIN WHO FELT COLD A LOT. They liked it a bit more than the previous one because this was easier for them and also there were pictures to focus their attention.

With this story we started to work on a GRAPHIC ORGANIZER about the three parts of the story. First we analized THE PENGUIN WHO FELT COLD A LOT. 

By the end of this activity they were ready to create their own Graphic Organizer about what is going to happen in their own story. Here you have an example about what they did.

So now everything was ready to write their stories and created a book of stories written by them. Here you can read and listen what they did.

With all the stories we have created a book to leave at the classroom library to read along this school year and leave for the next students of this classroom. Here it is:

Every student has done these stories also in a separate worksheet again to set the into their own portfolios. We have sticked on them the QR-codes so they will have their posdcast also in their folders.

Alejandro Zamora from CEIP Concordia in Campohermoso (Almería), show us his work about Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook.

Sixth year pupils have made some presentations about people who are important to the human life for something they have made, discovered or invented. Here you have Álex's presentation. Maybe the quality of the video is not so good, but the quality of the content is great! ;)
