Stop Bulling

Today we share an interesting work about Bulling from IES Vicente Medina in Archena (Murcia). Inmaculada López, the English teacher tells us.

Bullying is a social scourge which affects more people than we can imagine. Victims of bullying are often too scared to talk about what is happening to them to the point that sometimes they prefer to kill themselves rather than talk to teachers or parents.
During the 2nd term, 1º Bachillerato students have been working on this topic in different ways. First of all, they read and watched “About a boy”, a “funny” story which deals with serious topics such as the one under consideration in this post. After reading and watching, they all contributed to create a collaborative wall with Padlet in which they offered possible solutions to the problem of bullying at school. Click on the photo to view it:

Once the wall was finished, they organised themselves into groups of 4/5 students and wrote some leaflets using smore to start a campaign against bullying at school. These leaflets had to include videos in which they put themselves in the shoes of the bullies and the victims. As expected, they did an amazing job. Watch the videos and judge for yourselves:

Learning about the body & senses with ICT

Name of the Reporters: Raquel Diez, Celia Lancharro, Patricia Madrueño and Natalia Martínez
Name of school: Universidad Rey Juan Carlos

We would like to introduce our CLIL e-project, which is called Learning about Body and senses with ICT. It is a collaborative e-project carried out by our team in the Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education at URJC. It is aimed to be introduced to 3rd graders of Primary Education.

We were asked to make a video showing our e-project by firstly making a planning of it. In order to create our video planning, we decided to use the StoryboardThat webtool, since it is a very visual but simple resource to make comics and it would help us have a clear idea about what to do in our e-project video.

Our e-project proposal is that children create a poster using Canva. In this sense, the steps in the CLIL challenge which students will have to follow are:

  1. Make groups of 3 people in order to work cooperatively.
  2. Each group will have to search for information on the Internet about the body and senses. They will also have to select and collect this information in order to create the poster.
  3. They will have to create a Canva account (one per group).
  4. Using the information they’ve found on the Internet, they will make a poster including visual support as images or videos.
  5. Finally, each group will share their creation on the social network (twitter, pinterest, facebook, the school blog…)

Here you have our final Storyboard:

Made with Storyboard That

And if you prefer, you can click on the following link to see it: https://www.storyboardthat.com/storyboards/93_nat/the-senses

After creating our storyboard we could start recording our e-project video.  The storyboard helped us to have a guideline to follow.

In this video we show our CLIL e-project about the body and the senses. We wanted to create an original and engaging clip. For this reason, we have recorded it as if we were students in a classroom carrying the e-project out. We have used a smartphone to record our videoclip, and then, we chose Windows Movie Maker to create and edit the final video.

Have a look at our e-project video:

Radio podcasts on environmental issues

Today we share a first work from IES Angel de Saavedra in Córdoba. The students are  currently doing a great job on podcast in the classroom.

Thanks to Pilar Torres, the English teacher. I hope you like!

Within the teaching programme of 3rd ESO, during this second term students have been working on environmental problems and they have developed the project Radio Podcast on Environmental issues.
The final task has been the elaboration of a podcast for a radio programme, with interviews in which they have played the roles of experts, ONG´s and people in general.

As you can see in the project title, it has got an interdisciplinary content: Science and English. The research that students have carried out has allowed them investigate in webpages in English different environmental problems that are affecting the world as well as discuss several ways to solve them. Nuclear waste, oil spilt, sea pollution, deforestation, etc… have been some of the problems discussed.

Students have also made use of ICT and web 2.0 tools to select the information, elaborate and record the scripts for their podcasts (elaborated in Google docs) add music (Audacity), upload their podcasts to IES Ángel de Saavedra channel in Ivoox and send them to the blog of projects.
To know more, here's the description of the project Radio podcasts on environmental issues.

The final result, all the radio podcasts on environmental issues, are in the BLOG of projects, within the label Radio Podcasts.

MUMO By Alan Rojo & Year 6B

This post has been adapted to English from MUMO por Alan Rojo y 6ºB . Congratulations to the student!
Hi!
My name is Alan Rojo. I am a pupil from Year 6B at San Gregorio School. We learnt a bit about the MUMO museum two weeks ago.

In MUMO project we have learnt about different things about Art, different people who has done works of art at the MUMO museum.
MUMO means movable museum.
MUMO has travelled around the world.

MUMO museum is very interesting to children and adults. It is funny because they need to use the imagination.
Also it is very interesting to look at children creating animals with organic things such as: egg cartons, bags of plastic, branches, leaves, stones, etc.
We learnt everything thanks to Cristian and Jara.
You can find more information in this article at Diario Palentino Newspaper "MuMo" acerca a los escolares al arte contemporáneo

After that we created a mindmap (#visualthinking #dibújamelas) about MUMO museum.
We answered these four questions:
  • What is MUMO?
  • What have I learnt?
  • What is my opinion about it?
  • How have I learnt?
Below you can discover them:

¡THANKS MUMO!

Psycho

Today we share a great work about the film "Psycho" from IES Vicente Medina in Archena (Murcia). Thanks to Inmaculada López, the English teacher. Congratulations to the students!

In 1º Bachillerato class we were watching Psycho as part of the project we are working on this year, 1º Bachillerato in Shock. After watching the film, the students had to fill in a Google questionnaire in which they had to give their opinion about some of the aspects dealt with in the film.
Once they had all done this individual task, it was time to organise themselves into groups and decide on whether they wanted to do some research on the role of women in the 50s in order to understand why Marion acted the way she did when she decided to steal the money from her boss or to work on a presentation in which they had to explain Marion and Norman’s good and evil sides to the rest of the class and try to demonstrate that there is an evil side to all of us. To such an aim, they could also talk about famous literary characters such as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde or Frankenstein. They could even use famous film or TV series characters such as Darth Vader from Star Wars or Walter White in Breaking Bad. You can review the whole process of the different tasks here.
Have a look at the students’ fantastic work. Check all of them as they even interviewed some of their grandmothers so that they could talk about what life was like for women in Spain in the 50s (Nuria, Teresa, Encarna, Clara and Nerea’s group). Click on the photos to access the presentations and have fun:

Literature and Music, why not?

Today we publish a new work from IES Vicente Medina in Archena (Murcia). An interesting proposal about music and literature to work in class.
A great job. Don´t forget to read!

Last term, students from 4º ESO read “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde as part of the project they are working on this year, which is called “Dark Sides” and which we have already published a few posts about. Some students suggested linking Wilde’s masterpiece with a song they really liked, “Savages” by Marina and The Diamonds and which they thought also dealt with some of the topics which come up in the novel:

So, the idea was to relate Literature with music. Well, why not? I let them explain the connection they had made between the two and the answer was obvious: there is a good and evil side to all of us, something they all explained clearly in their work. Click on the photos to have a look:
