My name, my address, my PLE

This post is a tribute to #EDUPLEMOOC, the online course organized by the INTEF  which is being followed by a few thousand people, most of them teachers, but also students and other people interested in reflecting about the way we learn in a connected environment.
Last year, students at IES "La Zafra" in Motril had the opportunity to learn about PLEs and PLNs as well as make a first draft of their PLE which they would keep filling in as they found new ways to learn and/or to connect themselves through the Internet.
HERE is the link to the task where you can check that a PLE is not just for adults or university students, but is perfectly suitable for the young ones.
As a result of that research, debate and reflection, and after having had a look at the teacher's PLE, we have some prototypes of what some day will be  complete and well developed students' Personal learning Environments.

La Zafra Virtual Zoo

That is the name of our latest Project. Students of ESO1 at IES “La Zafra” have been looking for information, writing drafts, choosing pictures… for the last few weeks, in order to make a report about their favourite animal. We have done most of the work on the classroom wiki but the workspaces there (proyectos)  are password protected and you cannot see them ☹ So, we have copied our texts on THIS PADLET so you can have a look and learn about dolphins, dogs, parrots, caimans or even about the strange “Pangolin” :-)
Most of the works shown here have not been fully revised after the teacher’s correction and suggestions, so you can find some mistakes. As we willl keep improving them, please, feel free to send coments with your suggestions about spelling, gramar or vocabulary mistakes that you might find and we will try to correct them as son as we can.

My Dream Classroom

Have you ever wished to have a jacuzzi in your classroom? Or, maybe a tennis court, a piano, some clothes shops and, of course, plenty of computers and mobile phones everywhere?
Students of ESO1B at IES La Zafra in Motril have had the opportunity of designing their ideal classroom. Most of them are in Hawaii, but we also have classrooms in New York, London and even...Jupiter!!! Five to ten students per classroom as average and most of the times, with no teachers. (...)
They have even been allowed to chose the subjects taught in those Dream Classrooms and, of course, the winner is: Wassap. One hour everyday, followed by lessons of tuenti, shopping, football, and, of course, PSP, XBox... No need to have a recess as you can sit comfortably in the huge sofas placed everywhere or have a swim in the huge swimming pools that you can find in almost all of our classrooms. And, believe it or not,  in mid november, in Motril, most of the classroom didn't forget to install... Air Conditioned!!

Hard Rock Cafe II

Today, some reporters of ESO4 at IES La Zafra in Motril, present a second post about the "HRC Project" they did a few weeks ago. The post was meant to be a radio program including some interviews to some of the people who took part in the project, but finally they have decided to include some pictures and turn it into a video. Playing to be wikipedia editors

Elvira, a student of 4ESOB at IES "La Zafra" invites us to take part in the Project they are currently doing in their English classes:

This term, my class is editing  Motril's Wikipedia article as part of a class project.
We are improving the older entry by looking for information about several topics, the ones we consider the most relevant about our town and this way, getting to know a bit more about it too. We're also trying to spread the word of this project on the net and get some help from our readers.
We have already got a lot of information and we've searched the web in order to get references. We've also learnt how to edit a Wikipedia article and have practiced editing in the sandbox.
Now, we're asking for help on the net: if you want to help us, you can visit the page and edit it by yourself, or  maybe you prefer contacting us via twitter. If you choose editing by yourself, you just have to sign up on Wikipedia and once you reach our page, click on the tab 'edit'.
You can play with us to be a Wikipedia editor. Are you gonna miss this opportunity??

From Motril to Pluto... and beyond!!

Students of 1ESO B at IES "La Zafra" have been working on a project about our solar system. We have listened to the 'Solar System Song", researched interesting details as the size, shape, moons, etc of the different planets; the 'inner' and the 'outer' ones, the gas giants, we've found how much you would weight or how old you would be in that planet... and finally, we've made posters to show some of our findings. Here is a sample of those posters but you can find many more in OUR WIKI.

Happy Birthday, MLK

Last January we celebrated Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday. To honor his memory, we did a number of activities: we wrote our “Dreams” on the back of his picture, we  researched on different aspects of his life, listened to part of his speeches, and finally we prepared presentations to show other students our views about one of the most remarkable persons of the 20th. Century.
